Taksim is a popular base for first-time visitors, with easy access to İstiklal Avenue, hotels, restaurants and the M2 metro. But “Taksim” covers a large area, so the best arrival option depends on whether your accommodation is right on the square, down a steep side street or further towards Cihangir and Galata.
Travelling by metro
From Istanbul Airport, take the M11 towards Gayrettepe and connect with the M2 line for Taksim. This avoids much of the city’s road traffic and is useful for passengers who can manage changes of train.
